KNUTSFORD driver Oliver Webb says he is ready for the Le Mans 24-hour race in France this weekend, one he describes as motorsport’s ‘ultimate challenge’.
The 24-year-old stood on the podium at the end of his debut at last year’s edition after helping Signatech-Alpine to third position in their class.
This time he is part of newcomers Team SARD-Morand’s line-up.
“Racing at Le Mans is a great feeling,” said Webb.
“The race attracts some of the biggest names in our sport, both in terms of drivers and teams. It’s the ultimate challenge, one I’m excited to be part of again.”
Along with fellow pilots Pierre Ragues and Zoel Amberg, he has made a strong start to his first campaign in the World Endurance Championship.
At an official Le Mans test, their car was among the fastest in wet conditions around the Circuit de la Sarthe.
Webb added: “We ran strongly in the test day.
“The team also did a great job at the last round of the championship to help us secure a podium finish.
“We’re confident we have a strong package going into the weekend, and are in a good position to be competitive.”
He will be on track today, Wednesday, for a first free practice session.
A first night-time qualifying period follows later.
Two more qualifying sessions, including another during the evening, follow on Thursday before the race itself starts on Saturday afternoon.
Webb has already enjoyed success at a 24-hour race this year, helping German outfit Black Falcon Racing to overall honours in Dubai back in January.
