A GROWER celebrated victory winning the Allostock Gooseberry Show for the second year running plus scooping five other coveted prizes.

Peter Buckles, from Plumley, retained the Wilfred Lea Cup for the heaviest Premier Berry at the society’s 125th show.

The winning berry was a Montrose, weighing in at 27 pennyweights and 7 grains.

Jim Hart, from Knutsford, came a close second with a Millennium berry weighing 26.13, gaining him the Les Palmer Goblet for Second Heaviest Premier Berry.

Peter also won the Lord Derby Plate, Red Plate, Heaviest Yellow berry, a Montrose weighing 26.13, and the George Hughes Cup for Second Heaviest Twins.

Jim received the Jim Lander Cup for the Championship Show Plate with a dozen Millennium berries.

Jim also achieved multiple success, winning cups for the Most Points Gained and the Most Points Gained in the Colour Categories.

He won two colour categories, the Heaviest Red Berry, a Lloyd George weighing 23.22, and the Heaviest White Berry, a Belmarsh weighing 24.17. Jim won the Best Beaten Berry with a Millennium weighing 24.22.

Peter Riley took the Heaviest Twins crown with a set of Montrose berries weighing 34.02. Pete also won the Heaviest Green Berry with a Bank View, weighing 17.09, and the Yellow Plate.

Richard Hill won the Green Plate.

Dave Lake won the Jim Eyres Rose Bowl for the Heaviest Firbob Twins, and the Heaviest Assorted Berry Plate.
