RESIDENTS can now keep fit when they pop out for a walk in the park.

A new mini trim trial has been installed on The Moor, near Knutsford town centre.

Friends of the Moor have been raising funds after the public showed community support for the project during consultation in 2020.

Wooden framed equipment has been chosen to fit in with the open green feel of the town’s Green Flag park.

The Moor is already a popular space for people keeping fit.

The new mini trim trail comprises monkey bars, a pull up bar and a sit up bench.

Adam Keppel-Green, chairman of Friends of the Moor, said “We wanted to add some discrete equipment to the Moor to help people keep fit.

"It's been really rewarding to see it in use already.

“We’d love to add a few additional pieces in the future, subject to being able to secure grants or donations.

“But first, we need to fund repairs to the shelter following vandalism and would like to see bins and benches given some attention.”

The equipment was funded by grants from Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund, Redrow, Arnold Clarke and money raised by Cllr Peter Coan during his 2018-19 mayoral term.

The total cost was just under £8,500.

The equipment has been installed near the 1st Knutsford Scouts HQ, in a less used part of the Moor.

The aim is to provide free-to-use exercise equipment for the community to keep fit.

Friends of the Moor are now working on improvements with park managers at Cheshire East Council and ANSA, who have confirmed they are looking to replace the play area fencing.

Maintenance and repair of the site was discussed at a recent Friends' meeting.

The restoration of roofing panels on the shelter, the Moor pool railings, re-painting the railing posts on the Barncroft and reviving the Fat Bird are among other projects in the pipeline.

Friends also hope to plant trees and hedges on the Barncroft and bulbs and wildflowers on the Moor near the scout hut.

Investigations about installing low level lighting on the footpath across the Barncroft are also under way.

New committee members to help serve as a voice for the Moor and Barncroft are always welcome.

Friends will be holding their AGM on Thursday, September 14, at 6.30pm at a venue to be confirmed.
