KAREN and Mike Garnett are set to embark on the next chapter in their lives after putting The Red Lion pub in Goostrey up for sale.

The couple bought the pub in Station Road in 2001, and are planning a farewell event for regulars.

They said: "A few months ago we said we were going to take a bit of a step back from the business.

"This happened, and because of this it allowed us to spend time on putting some changes into motion, one of which is the sale of the business, property and land.

"This is something we are so excited about. We bought The Red Lion back in 2001, and a lot has changed since then, not just in our lives but in the industry. We are ready to close this chapter of our lives and open up the next one.

Knutsford Guardian:

The Red Lion

"This is a really bittersweet time for us. We have had some of the best times and met some of the best people here.

"The past 19 years have been years of hard work and laughter. The Red Lion Goostrey was more than a pub; it was our kids' childhood home, our safe place and the place we could count on to always have a friendly face in.

"But our kids aren’t kids any more. They have new homes and there’s new adventures to be had. We’re moving on; we have a huge, happy future of retirement and life in front of us and honestly, we can't wait.

"We'll probably organise a bit of a farewell 'do' once everything is finalised' but for now, thanks for the memories."
