Monies for a new gallery at Jodrell Bank are, of course, a good thing as detailed in last week’s Knutsford Guardian article ‘Jodrell Bank funding is welcomed by MP Fiona’.

However the Prime Minister’s announcement, during her recent visit, that she will fully associate the UK with the European Unions scientific research programme post Brexit provides no guarantees.

Currently British research benefits greatly from our membership of the EU.

Between 2007 and 2013 we received £8 billion from the EU for research which is £3 billion more than we put into that budget.

The UK has also had the right to influence the areas and direction of scientific research.

Do we really want to jeopardise these benefits, as well as many others, by pursuing what appears to be an increasingly ill thought out Brexit strategy?
