MY thanks and appreciation to the Knutsford Guardian for your coverage of many stories involving the Moor in Knutsford.
Last week I had a letter published regarding the Friends of The Moor and the forthcoming annual meeting.
I note that although I submitted the letter in my name and capacity as chair of the friends group, it was edited to say chairman.
The group has debated this title over recent years and the discussion continues in many other groups.
It is no longer appropriate to use the term chairman.
Our current constitution refers to the position as chair and our proposed new constitution as chairperson.
I believe that it is very important for everyone in society to believe that positions of leadership are available to them.
The use of the term chairman could be seen as subtle #everydaysexism.
Please could you apologise, by way of printing this letter, for editing this title in this way and consider, if you need to for editorial style, using the term chairperson.
Although it is common to see reference to the chair, eg in the Scout Association executive committee, perhaps there should be no editing of terms that describe position, they should remain as submitted.
