THE no parking restriction on Tatton Street during the RHS Flower Show made a positive impact for a number of reasons.

Due consideration should be given to enforcing this on a permanent basis.

First and foremost, to address the serious safety risks which are inherent when vehicles are allowed to park here.

The young daughter of friends, whilst riding her scooter on the pavement, narrowly escaped serious injury when she turned the corner of George Street onto Tatton Street into the path of a car which had mounted the pavement to avoid oncoming traffic overtaking the parked vehicles.

Fortunately, the driver managed to stop in the nick of time but, if he had not been able to do so, it would have been a very different scenario.

Those exiting Laura Ashley and the offices face a similar risk.

Additionally, the absence of parked cars made it easier for pedestrians crossing the road to have clear vision, avoiding the necessity of venturing into the road to peer round stationery vehicles.

There was also a significant improvement to the flow of traffic, which commuters must have appreciated, especially when numerous vehicles from Garden Road, Mereheath Lane, the entrance to Tatton Park and Tatton Street converge at this point.

Hopefully, the health and safety risks in this area will be reviewed and appropriate action taken before a very serious incident occurs.
