I READ with interest that Aldi have been given the go-ahead to expand their store in Knutsford, to deal with its popularity.

When the store opened, I did think it would gridlock a traffic pinch-point, and was moderately relieved that its effect on traffic flow through Knutsford wasn’t the continuous problem I had envisaged.

It’s clear though that the design of the left turn at the lights, left up the hill leaves much to be desired.

There is little point in the lights allowing left filter if that filter lane becomes quickly blocked by those in the right-hand lane, waiting to go straight on towards Macclesfield.

I’m thus hoping that the planners bite the bullet of removing that marvellous old tree to the left of the Aldi exit in order to lengthen the left-hand filter lane, and remedy that removal with the timehonoured solution of specifying new tree planting nearby.

Your report speaks of a ‘change in layout to the Brook Street entrance’. Let’s hope it’s the right one.
