I WRITE in response to your article on page 18 re George Osborne, and letter on page 14 (July 6).

George Osborne has been an outstanding Chancellor of the Exchequer, one of the best in the post-war period, as he has grappled with the nation’s dire state of finances bequeathed by Gordon Brown, and he has pushed forward grand infrastructure plans to stimulate the economy.

We in the north have particularly benefited from his chancellorship, as he has promoted the North as the place to do business with his Northern Powerhouse ideas, and put his money where his mouth is, with new roads such as the A556M, improving communication, the trans-Pennine connections to be improved, and a significant upgrade of the rail network.

Enabling Manchester to run large parts of its own infrastructure will see extensive improvements to the tram network, coupled with further airport development which opens us to the world.

Britain needs to think globally, and Mr Osborne is the man to promote our country.

Last weekend he flew to America to promote our willingness and ability to do business on a global stage as we move away from the shackles of the EU.

We are fortunate to have such an influential politician here in Tatton constituency.

Therefore it is hardly surprising that he spends more time batting for Britain than in the constituency office.

However, all letters and emails I have sent him are dealt with promptly by his team, and in addition, he has devoted a lot of time to many hundreds of charitable causes in the constituency.

One example is the Welcome Community centre on Longridge, which has benefited considerably from his support and assistance.

The new prime minister will be well advised for Mr Osborne to remain as Chancellor, as it is hard to think of anyone who could do a better job, and I welcome his decision to continue serving the Tatton Constituency.
