IT WAS a surprise to see Matthew Mooney of Belle Epoque complaining about the state of the King Street road surface.

What a cheek! It was Mr Mooney and a majority of his fellow King Street traders that last year persuaded our Town Council to shelve the ‘shared space’ scheme.

This was following the results of an informative and no doubt costly consultation process which once again showed very clearly the wishes of local people to be in favour of such a scheme.

Little wonder then that Cheshire East Council is prepared to do little more than patch up King Street, after the scrapping of a perfectly viable and welldesigned scheme, until such time as there are firm proposals for a more permanent solution.

I am aware of no such proposals yet, least of all from the traders, who now have the gall to complain about conditions ‘unsafe for shoppers, the elderly and those with prams’. You can’t have it both ways, Mr Mooney!

So, failing availability of a list of the minority of traders who supported the ‘shared space’ scheme, I shall continue to minimise my visits to all King Street businesses.

I would urge other residents to do the same.
