I APPLAUD the lead story in last week’s Knutsford Guardian regarding potholes.

I frequently cycle down Bexton Road to the junction with King Edward Road. This is generally a safe route to town except for the stretch alongside the bus station.

I note that several very large and deep holes have been filled in with the usual shovelful of tarmac.

It goes without saying that all the nearby smaller holes have been ignored.

I assume the reason for this they do not meet the criteria for a pothole, ie two inches deep.

Of course this then means several more visits over subsequent months and more more money for contractors.

My particular difficulty is the traffic calming “hump”.

I reported this first a few years ago through Cheshire East’s “Fill that hole” website.

But you’ve guessed it – no action.

I tried again via the CTC cyclists organisation and again no response.

At my next attempt, I challenged the Highways department to send someone to ride over with a bike. I am still waiting.

The road surface here is broken up and rutted and getting worse.

To ride across it is necessary to stand up on your pedals and hope you and bike survive the shaking.

Even a car shakes.

Perhaps the forthcoming cycling event “The Tour of Britain” should be routed this way.
