THE Knutsford Guardian published a feature article both online and in last Wednesday’s paper edition regarding Knutsford Lions Project Wenceslas.

Under this new scheme the Lions, in conjunction with The Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) and Great Places Housing Group, is encouraging local senior citizens who feel they do not need all of the Winter Fuel Allowance paid to them by the government to consider making a donation to help all local people who do have such a need.

The online article was fine, but unfortunately in the paper edition some of the wording in the draft article supplied by the Lions was altered and as a result the impression is given that the project is just for the benefit of senior citizens.

This is not the case.

According to the CAB and Great Places there are many families in the area, who do not receive any Winter Fuel Allowance from the government, but who struggle with their fuel bills.

The aim of Project Wenceslas is to try to ensure that everyone, young and old, keeps warm throughout the winter months.

There was also an important quote omission: “All the money raised will initially go into the Lions Charity Account, ring-fenced for ‘Project Wenceslas’.”

The funds will then be passed direct to the utility accounts of the affected households as identified by the CAB and Great Places Housing Group.

The Lions really do appreciate all the Guardian does for us, but I hope you will understand how misleading last week’s paper edition was.

In the circumstances I should be grateful if you would reissue the article so that local people fully understand the purpose of the project and how they can donate should they so wish.
