I WAS born and bred in Knutsford and spent almost all of my life living in the area until I moved to Sicily, in the south of Italy, more than two years ago.

If ever there was a town that would benefit from such an action as removing traffic from one of the main streets, Knutsford has to be the epitome.

Comprising, still, of individual, small, quaint shops along its length, how much more pleasant would it be to be able to amble freely and not be bothered by the relentless flow of traffic?

Yet countless decades are passing and still no action. From the proposal to have a removable barrier placed at the entrance to King Street in the 1970s (?) to the present day proposal for a ‘shared space’ solution, inertia rules.

It seems that the continuing refusal of anyone in authority to take any action and assume some ownership of the issue is allowing this travesty to continue.

Regardless of what the traders might say, Knutsford exists because of its inhabitants and visitors and it surely should be their wishes that prevail.

I realise that indecision is the key to flexibility but for heavens sake hasn’t this sorry saga now gone on for long enough?

Action, not more prevarication, please.
