LAST week’s Guardian covered calls by Cheshire Community Action to scrap the bedroom tax in rural communities.
I believe we should go further and scrap the tax completely.
It is unjust and ineffective. It raises almost no money for the government but hits the most disadvantaged families.
It takes no account of individual circumstances, including disabilities.
It is having a real impact in Tatton.
Over 400 families across the constituency have been affected. It is unconscionable that the conservatives and liberal democrats voted to introduce such a manifestly unfair and regressive measure.
Tatton deserves better.
That’s why a labour government would abolish the bedroom tax.
It should go and go now.
David Pinto-Duschinsky
Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Tatton
