I AM writing regarding the article, “Kids face poor life”, Guardian, October 22.

The paper is right to highlight the shocking issue of child poverty.

Knutsford has always been a town of two halves, which is why The Welcome was set up as a community centre and refuge in Longridge.

The many ways in which it helps the local community includes education, counselling services, the job club, adult education, credit unions, youth and children’s work, family support, craft, and of course the famous Café, have supported hundreds of people, and Longridge would be a poorer place without it.

The trouble is that such things don’t come cheap, and The Welcome is always in need of further resources, as it is funded entirely by voluntary donations.

If as a business owner, director, or an individual who wishes to support The Welcome, you agree that as a town we have to support this life changing place, then please contact the manager, Marie Fox, on 01565 750905.
