I AM writing in response to Alex Scott’s letter, Guardian, July 30, concerning litter on the Moor.
Firstly, I must say that currently the town council is not involved in the enforcement of fines etc for littering; this is carried out by Cheshire East Council.
I will speak to the community wardens to see what they will be doing to tackle littering issues on the Moor and Heath and enquire as to the number of prosecutions/fines issued in Knutsford over the past few years.
The town council does however have the power to act in this area through the Cleaner Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005, and it is something that the council will be looking into as part of our 2020 Vision.
One of our 13 key aims over the next six years is to consider taking on enforcement duties for low level anti-social activities such as this from CEC.
