FOLLOWING on from the points John Myerscough makes about a Mistletoe Market in Knutsford having 100 huts, (Guardian, March 12,) this is a third of the number the Manchester Christmas markets have.
On Saturday, November 30, 2013, the first Saturday of the 2013 Manchester Christmas Markets, Manchester had a record number of passengers using Piccadilly and Victoria stations, with a number of train services being so full that many passengers who wanted to travel were unable to board trains due to insufficient capacity. If we consider what infrastructure Knutsford has in comparison to Manchester then we certainly aren’t able to host an event of the size proposed without organising something to support getting visitors to and from the site.
For the Cheshire Show there is usually a free bus service from Hartford, Northwich and Knutsford stations to the show ground, so maybe for the Mistletoe Markets there should be a free bus service from Hartford station via Northwich town centre and another from Macclesfield station?
