THE Royal Family has decided it can’t spare anyone for this year’s landmark 150th Royal May Day.

You would probably understand if the committee asked two weeks ago ahead of the big day on Saturday, May 3, but a representative asked two years ago.

Surely that’s ample time for at least one member of the country’s leading family to make some space in the diary?

It’s a great shame, but the Guardian is sure the committee can move on and make this year extra special for the town despite the snub.

Talking about disappointments, it was sad to see Elvis the deer on Canute Place roundabout vandalised over the weekend.

Installed last May, it has been a lovely marker for those entering the town.

However, someone decided it would be funny to steal the antlers and squash him on Saturday evening.

Many will say they are surprised it has lasted this long, but that’s not the point.

Hopefully CCTV in Canute Place will catch the culprits.

To finish this new Guardian comment on a positive note, it’s a huge congratulations to the hard-working volunteers who have made Knutsford, Chelford and Plumley stations pick up prizes in the Cheshire Best Kept Stations awards.

Well done to all!
