JOHN Atkinson claimed victory in the latest round of Alderley Edge Golf Club’s Simister Cup.

A total of 39 points saw him win through in the sixth round as he finished a point clear of Steve Smith, with both Steve Bennett and Paul Rowley a further point back.

Yvonne Grundy was first past the post as Edge’s ladies played a nine-hole Stableford – she finished on 20 points with Lesley Fowler following on 18. Fiona Anderson, Jean Walker and Sue Kendrick all finished on 17 points.

Jean Walker did pick up a victory in the 9-hole medal Edge's ladies played via a card play-off after she and Janette Smith both finished on 37 points. Lesley Fowler (38), Angela Atkinson and Sue Kendrick (both 39) were all hot on their heels.

Over at Styal Golf Club, card play-offs were required to decide both divisions of a 15-hole Stableford as Stephen Atherton (31) and Peter Booth (30) were declared winners.

Styal’s Friday nine-hole Frolics had Ian Ogden leading in with 17, one more than Lee Cullen.

The club’s Saturday Stableford had Rob Metcalfe topping Division One with 37 points, with nearest challenger Steve James finishing three points behind while Simon Elms followed on 33.

Division Two saw Andrew Barker (33) edge out Thomas Hankinson (32), with Dennis Chester in third on 29.

The following day, Steve James led the 15-hole Stableford with 34 as he beat Helen Billington by two points. Graham Jones and Matt Bailey both followed behind on 27.

Another 15-hole Stableford - this time for the club's seniors - saw Paul Hill win via card play-off on 25 from Stephen Atherton. They both finished two clear of David O'Brien and Dave Rice.

A 12-hole Shotgun Texas Scramble at Styal had the hot trio of M Trainor, T Harrop and O McCall firing on all cylinders with 30.0.

Following behind were M Henshall, M Darricotte, C and M Thompson and G Stevens, L Cullen, L Davis and N Heyes, both 33.
