KNUTSFORD’S snooker teams got their season back underway this week – and the competition’s newest team made an immediate impact.

Heald Green Social Club are competing in the Knutsford and District Amateur Snooker League for the first time and they enjoyed a superb debut night, thrashing Wilmslow Cons B 6-1 to jump straight to the top of the table.

That was one of six matches played on the opening weekend, with reigning champions Tatton A getting the defence of their title off to a winning start with a 5-2 derby victory over Tatton C – a match that featured a fine 47 break from TC Jay Trophy winner Pete Blain.

Summer league champions and expected title challengers Morley Green did not get off to quite as good a start as they lost a tight match against Tatton B, for whom Bob Jones’ 102-point frame aided a 4-3 victory.

Mobberley C got their campaign off to a strong start with a 5-2 defeat of Mere B, with the derby match between Mobberley’s A and B teams ending in the same result in a match where the aggregate came down to the final black.

Bruce Tulley made two breaks of 30 or more in his frame as the A team eventually ran out winners.

Shaw Heath – champions of the 2021-22 season – got off to a losing start as they went down 4-3 against Mere A.
