KNUTSFORD FC will be going for silverware on Saturday.

They will face higher-division Middlewich Town in the Mid Cheshire District FA Saturday Challenge Cup Final.

The showdown will be played at Middlewich Town’s Seddon Street ground, kick-off 3pm.

Admission fees are adults £5, pensioners £2, under 18s free.

Reds booked their place in the decider with a penalty shootout success against Hartford in February after the semi-final had ended 1-1.

They go into the contest hoping to leave their league form behind them, having been defeated in the last four Division One matches played.

This includes a 4-0 loss at home to Golborne Sports on Saturday, with the scoreline saved from being worse thanks to goalkeeper Dom Smith who is a leading candidate for the team’s player-of-the-season award.

Player availability has been an issue at times throughout the campaign, so for manager Nick Ward to only have to make two changes to the squad for Saturday’s clash was something of a rarity.

Knutsford were the better side in the first half and probably should have been 2-0 up, but they lacked a cutting edge and succumbed to a defensive mistake on 45 minutes that cost them a goal and heads then dropped.

Matt Morgan tried to shepherd the ball out but was bundled over and the cross to the far post was met by Rob Newcombe for 0-1 much against the run of play.

From a free-kick Newcombe was at the far post with an easy unopposed header for 0-2 after 57 minutes.

Ten minutes later a cross came in from the right and Knutsford had three chances to clear the ball but after a shot was well saved Smith the ball fell to Newcombe to complete his hat-trick.

Golborne kept on counter attacking and a shot from an angle was parried well by Smith but the rebound fell to that man Newcombe again as the scoring was wrapped up in the 40th minute.
