Keswick 2-2 Knutsford

BEN Moser scored a late equaliser to earn for Knutsford, the newly-crowned champions, a deserved draw at Keswick on Sunday.

He adjusted brilliantly to deflect a ball high ball into the net after Simon Trenbirth’s initial attempt had been blocked.

The Black Knights almost pinched maximum points with time running out, only for Graeme Wolfenden’s attempt from a short-corner to whistle wide of the target.

Captain Tom Howard was delighted with his side, who travelled to Cumbria with 11 players.

“Coming together is a beginning,” he said.

“Staying so is progress, and working together brings success.”

Knutsford drafted in Dan Cooper to play as a defender, while Rich Saxton impressed again in a midfield role.

Keswick drew first blood from a set-piece, shooting high past goalkeeper Tom Wright.

Their guests rallied, and Wolfenden increased his goals-tally for the campaign to 32 when he restored parity.

The Black Knights retreated after the interval, allowing their hosts to have possession, and almost edged ahead following a counter-attack when Gary Brown’s aerial pass sent Jonny Price clear.

He rounded the goalkeeper, but could not convert from an acute angle.

Keswick took the lead for a second time with 10 minutes left, again finishing clinically to beat Wright via a drag-flick at a short-corner.

Moser’s moment followed shortly afterwards.

Knutsford finish the season nine points clear of runners-up Didsbury Northern seconds, who edged out City of Manchester last weekend.
