A TEENAGER from Knutsford will test himself against the best young players from across the country at a four-day tournament.

Archie Phillips, a student at King’s School in Macclesfield, has been selected for Pennine Pumas under 16s boys’ squad for the next edition of the Futures Cup.

It is a reward for the progress he has made with Manchester Pumas.

Meanwhile another King’s pupil from Knutsford, goalkeeper Jack Ancell, has been invited to attend training sessions at Durham’s performance centre.

“Good goalkeepers are in demand, which is why Jack has been offered an opportunity outside of the area,” said Steve Moores, hockey coach at the school.

“Archie will have a chance to show what he can do more locally.”

The duo are part of a 10-strong group of boys and girls from the school who are currently part of England Hockey’s Player Pathway, set up to nurture youngsters with potential.
