OLIVER Webb finished inside the top five for second successive round of the World Endurance Championship despite his car suffering from power problems.

The Knutsford driver, behind the wheel of Team SARD Morand's machine for the final stint of a six-hour race at Circuit of the Americas in Texas, started the last lap placed fourth in the LMP2 class.

However he had to yield the position on the final corner.

"It was a cruel to drop a place like that," he said afterwards.

"But it's another point-scoring result, and we're proving we can be consistent."

Webb, along with co-drivers Pierre Ragues and Archie Hamilton, started Saturday's race from the grid's second row.

He did a double stint, moving the team into a podium position before the high temperatures prompted a loss of power.

Following an unscheduled pit-stop, they protected fourth place after changing strategy to shorter stints for each driver.

"It was a tough weekend, mentally and physically challenging," added Webb.

"I had to hit the ground running to learn a new circuit. It's a fantastic place, and we showed strong pace through all the sessions.

"The team did a great job with the set-up, making it easy for me and the guys to focus on the job in hand."

Team SARD Morand are sixth in the standings with three rounds to go.

The series heads to Fuji, in Japan, for another six-hour race next month.

Webb concluded: "We'll go there looking to build on the positives, trying to come back stronger and push for a place on the podium."
