ROB Jones was part of a Cheshire team crowned inaugural Unicorns T20 champions on Sunday following a stunning display in the final at Banbury.

However the Toft all-rounder was left with little to do during a one-sided encounter with Oxfordshire after openers Warren Goodwin and Ollie Law both both scored centuries in amassing 240 without loss from their allotted overs.

Cheshire then dismissed their opponents for 121 to win by 119 runs, with Jones taking two catches in the field.

Earlier they were put into bat in a semi-final encounter with Devon, totalling 165-7.

Their foes fell nine runs short.

Jones’ teammate at Booth’s Park, James Drummond, says he is starting to feel at home as part of Cheshire’s set-up.

The young opener contributed a fine 45 to their innings in last week’s Minor Counties Championship clash with Devon at Grappenhall, following up a half-century against Wales last time out.

“It’s great to be involved,” he said.

“We’ve a strong top order, and I feel comfortable batting at five with so many good players around me.

“Playing for Cheshire feels like a real step-up; it’s a different game adapting to a Dukes ball but I'm making good progress and hopefully can continue to do so.”

Only 49 overs were possible over three days against Devon, 44 of those bowled on the first day.

The umpires were left with no option other than to call off the contest on the third morning with Cheshire at 170-6.
