TOFT’S run of five successive wins in the Cheshire County League ended after a heavy defeat against Hyde on Saturday.

The reigning Premier Division champions proved too strong at Booth’s Park, cruising to a 113-run victory after bowling out the home team for just 92.

It means Chester Boughton Hall, victors at Marple, take over top spot in the table.

The Knutsford outfit had started promisingly, restricting their guests to 129-6 before Dan Berry (50no) and Daniel Williams (34no) shared in an unbeaten partnership worth 76 to take them to 205-6.

Jimmy Lomas took 3-62.

James Drummond was out off the second ball in Toft’s reply, hooking a Jason Whittaker delivery to Williams at long leg.

Wickets fell regularly afterwards, with only England junior international Rob Jones (36) – unlucky to be given out LBW – and Eddie Stubbs reaching double figures.

They hope to bounce back at the first attempt when they visit Nantwich on Saturday.

Toft had beaten Didsbury by 11 runs in the Joseph Holt Brewery T20 on Thursday, when they totalled 105-8 with Sam Hatcher (39) and Toby Drummond (28) their leading scorers.

The visitors’ reply reached 94-9, with Jack Goode (3-23) most successful of Toft’s bowlers.

They lead the way in Group Three with one match left.

Toft seconds were thrashed by 160 runs by their Hyde counterparts on Saturday.

Their opponents amassed 258-9 off 50 overs, including half-centuries for Lewis Reeves (59no) and Ryan Waterhouse (50), with spinner Nigel Muirhead returning figures of 5-82.

Toft fell well short after tea, succumbing for 98, when Chris Drummond (36) and Mark Blackhurst (34) were the only batsmen to make a start.
