A FIFTH win in six matches, this time against neighbours Macclesfield, helped Toft add to their lead at the Cheshire County League summit on Saturday.

Their title credentials will be tested at Booth’s Park this weekend, when champions Hyde visit.

The Knutsford outfit go into that contest in form, boosted by a four-wicket victory at Macc.

They restricted their hosts to 189 all out after winning the toss, Jacke Goode, Matthew Cornes, James Drummond and Jimmy Lomas taking two wickets each.

Toft’s reply started swiftly, with James Drummond (25) and Rob Jones (50 off 29 balls) sharing in a partnership worth 61 runs for the second wicket.

The next four batsmen were out with only a further 29 added before captain Toby Drummond (30no) and Goode (31no) took the visitors to their target at 191-6.

Toft’s seconds lost by 19 runs at home to their Macclesfield counterparts, for whom old boy Eddie Bones (77) top-scored as the visitors posted 204-7.

Joe Stanley took 3-76.

Toft’s reply slumped to 22-5 before half-centuries from Gavin Tomlinson and captain Paul Ashley (both 57) rallied, supported by Dan Lord (31).

However their remaining wicket fell in the final over with the score on 185.

An unbeaten century partnership between lower-order pair Ted Parr (60no) and Tom Maddocks (35no) made sure Toft’s thirds salvaged a draw at Didsbury on Sunday.

After slumping to 98-7, the visitors rallied to 198 at stumps.

Didsbury had racked up 268-5 off 43 overs before declaring, Parr (2-44) having most joy of Toft’s bowling attack.
