MOBBERLEY suffered a first defeat of the season in the Cheshire County League’s Division Two on Saturday, losing by eight wickets at home to Congleton.

They were dismissed for 157 after being put in, Rob Spilsbury (33) making the biggest individual contribution to their total.

Max O’Sullivan (57no) made sure the visitors returned home with maximum points, sharing in an unbeaten partnership worth 78 runs with opener Tom Blease (46no).

They fared better in midweek, beating Macclesfield by 33 runs in their Joseph Holt Brewery T20 group-stage opener.

Openers Abdul Aqeel (42) and Charlie Nield (30) helped Mobberley to 115-9, the latter then taking five wickets at a cost of only six runs as Macc were knocked over for 82.

In the Cheshire Alliance, Knutsford remain without a league victory after losing at home to Old Parkonians by five wickets.

Batting first, Adnan Ghazanfar (54) was one of only three batsmen to make it to double figures as they succumbed for 122.

Adam Westwater (4-37) led the visitors’ attack.

They secured maximum points after Mike Hitchell (67no) led their reply to 125-5, while Ghazanfar (3-42) starred again with the ball.

Holmes Chapel edged Glazebury by a single run in the Alliance top flight.

Mike Brandon (58) and Jonny Price (36) put on 67 runs for the fourth wicket as Chapel reached 137-9.

The latter’s four-wicket haul helped dismiss their opponents for 136, Brandon (3-47) and Krish Bhardwa (3-29) providing support.

In the Cheshire League, Ashley successfully chased 149 to beat hosts Winnington Park by three wickets.

Tommy Smith (75) hit 11 boundaries to send them on their way after Subtain Baig (4-29) and David Alves (3-36) had restricted the Northwich outfit to 148 all out.
