Knutsford 10 Pilkington 0

KNUTSFORD hit double figures against Pilkington on Saturday to sign off their final Cheshire League Premier Division home game in style.

Liam Myers got his name on the scoresheet six times, while Thomas Rutter bagged a hat-trick and substitute Jonny Scott added another.

It was a 19th goal in two league games for the Manchester Road outfit against Pilkington, who continue to slide towards the relegation zone.

The visitors enjoyed a couple of early opportunities, but it was Reds who opened the scoring 16 minutes in when Myers skipped round the Pilkington keeper to slot into the net from an acute angle.

Lee Mannion hit a 22-yard right-footer which produced a great save from keeper Moldavchui, but a Myers effort then deflected to Rutter inside the area and the ex-Conference striker slotted home on the half hour mark.

Two minutes before the break ‘A’ team winger Scott, who was introduced for the injured Lee Morris, made it three when he headed in from a Myers free kick.

It took Knutsford only five minutes after the interval to further their lead, with Scott pulling a cross from the right wing back for Myers and the prolific front man smashing home on the volley.

James Pickford fired over from a Rutter chip, and the visitors’ stopper produced another save from Mannion before he combined with Scott to send Myers in for his hat-trick on 67 minutes.

On 70 minutes it was six for Scott Dignan’s side after Rutter slipped in Myers and he lifted the ball over Moldavchui, before returning the favour for Rutter to score three minutes later.

Myers added a solo effort and calmly finished under pressure for Reds’ eighth with 13 minutes remaining, but curled wide moments later as Knutsford edged towards double figures.

They got there with two goals in the final two minutes as first Myers completed a double hat-trick after Mannion hit the post and then Rutter got his third from 25 yards.

Reds visit Greenalls on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
