KNUTSFORD chairman Jimmy Evans will be happy this Christmas when he sees both of the club’s senior sides sitting top of the table.

The first team’s scheduled visit to boss Scott Dignan’s former side Whaley Bridge in the Cheshire League top flight was postponed on Saturday.

However with the weather prompting washouts throughout the Premier Division, Reds remain in first place albeit having played two more games than closest rivals Linotype.

“We end the year with both teams at the top of their leagues which is a milestone for the club,” said Evans.

“Scott and [reserve team manager] Jamie Mottershead have had a great start and are both doing well.

“We’re in a good position at the season’s halfway stage, but now is the right time to ramp it up.”

To emphasise the point, Reds have recruited Darryl Hall to the first-team’s coaching staff.

A former manager at Whaley Bridge and a UEFA B license-holder, he is a friend of Dignan.

With the reserves’ fixture also called off, the club’s two teams played a friendly on an all-weather surface at Middlewich Leisure Centre on Saturday.

Evans said: “We had a game to keep momentum going during this winter period when everything is stop-start.

“The lads will continue training through the holidays to be ready for when the season starts again.”

The Manchester Road outfit return to league action on Saturday week at challengers Crewe.

Knutsford A, who lead in Cheshire Reserve League Two on goal difference following a switch from the Altrincham and District Amateur League, are next due to play against West Didsbury and Chorlton A on January 3.
