KNUTSFORD U3A enjoyed their annual three night walking holiday recently – the base was Newfield Hall in Malhamdale.

This imposing HF Country House provided excellent accommodation for the 18 members. They travelled on the A59 near Clitheroe and through Gisburn and the quieter confines of rural Lancashire.

On arrival, members quickly settled into life in the Yorkshire Dales with a four-mile walk.

Back at base there was time to settle in before discovering the pleasures of the evening meal.

Saturday’s cooler, wetter weather didn’t deter members and they set off from Malham for a more rigorous day of walking by Malham Tarn and truly impressive Limestone Pavement. Back at Newfield members were divided into five teams ready for the film quiz.

Sunday’s sunny walk from the pretty village of Clapham, surrounded by limestone dry-stone walls, provided wonderful scenic views including Pendle Hill. A country dancing session brought the final night’s holiday to a light-hearted end.

On Monday morning they set off from Downham Village in perfect weather. Resting on the lower slopes of Pendle Hill, members marvelled at the beauty around them
