Goostrey Flower club by Sue Mansfield
Chairman, Marilyn Lloyd, welcomed members and visitors to Goostrey village hall for an afternoon of flowers and fun at a demonstration by Cynthia Preston-Jones entitled 'Its written in the stars'. Cynthia, a retired head teacher from Shropshire, went to her first flower club in Wrexham at the age of 12, and there her love of flowers began. When she retired she opened her own flower shop.
During her demonstration she sang songs to interpret her titles and told members that she had a star named for her called Princess Sunshine. In one of her arrangements she used hyacinths and to finish, threaded individual hyacinth flower heads on to steel grass, which she linked across the arrangement. The vote of thanks was given by June Sulej. Foyer flowers were given by Moyra Jones.
The notices included the sad news that Dorothy Jackson had died recently. Stewards are needed for the Cheshire show; there is a workshop at Lower Withington Hall on May 21, tickets £8.50. Members were to support the Scouts raffle, they are raising funds to build a new hut in Goostrey village. The Christmas lunch will be at The Yellow Broom on December 3, a week earlier than usual.
The next meeting is on May 14, when National Demonstrator Sue Davis, will give her demonstration 'It's blooming wonderful'. There will also be a green table and members are asked to bring along plants, cuttings or seedlings to sell on the table. Visitors are welcome at 2 for 2.30pm in Village Hall, with tea and biscuits after.
