Jodrell Side WI members walk around Lymm was cancelled for the first time in 20 years because of the dreadful weather at the end of October. Another walk is to be organised by Sue and Jose in conjunction with Knutsford Heritage Society which will trace the connection of Mrs Gaskell with the various buildings in Knutsford that appear in “Cranford”.

Pat Ingram and Jose Sykes attended the Dane Valley group meeting where they were entertained by Clare O’Neil. For the first time ever, Jodrell Side WI participated in the Macclesfield show. There were 10 entries, three of which gained a first and one highly commended.

The rail trippers are looking forward to a Christmas shopping spree in Liverpool and the book club are reading The darling buds of May. Gifts were brought to the recent meeting and will be sent to the CAFT for distribution to the children there.

The November meeting was the AGM, Pat Ingram read out the annual report. It reminded members what a busy and enjoyable year they have experienced. Shirley Britten thanked the committee for their help and support throughout the year. Shirley Britten was voted in as president for 2015.

Topic for the night was the Vine Project, the speaker gave a heart rending picture of the plight of children affected by the after-effects of AIDS. The competition was won by Diana Salmon and raffle prizes went to Jean Webb, Diana Blake and Mary Phillips.

A letter had been received from Maureen Walmsley who recently left the village after many years. She has found a nearby WI which she intends to visit. She will find it different to Jodrell Side which only has14 members.

Shirley closed the meeting with one of her amusing ditties. The plant was sent to Blanche Tomkys who recently celebrated her 98th birthday. Many happy returns, Blanche.
