The formal part of the evening was kept to a minimum at the recent meeting of Lower Withington WI as it was a DIY evening.

Lesley Waddington thanked Sheila Gallimore for her hard work in co-ordinating the 20 shoe boxes that were sent to Congleton churches for transportation to Congleton House; an orphanage in Torocko, which is being maintained by the charity Children of Romania (Congleton).

The Cheshire Show is already on the horizon for 2015, there have been changes to some of the classes; two of which have been taken out. Unfortunately they were ones in which Lower Withington excelled.

The guest speaker for the evening was unable to attend so Wendy Edmunds stepped in and showed two flower arrangements made using pumpkins. There was an early tea break, then everyone was given half a pumpkin, a bunch of flowers in autumnal colours, a selection of foliage plants and asked to make an arrangement. Everyone went home with a lovely display, it was tricky transporting them but even after two weeks some are still looking good. Thanks were given for the hard work in sourcing all the materials and preparing the pumpkins.

The next meeting on November 26, is the AGM, when the Ringheye Morris Dancers of Mobberley will provide the entertainment. The competition is a quotation and the winner will be included in the 2015 programme.
