Coach trip to Longnor, Staffordshire on October 26

A stalwart number of 28 Vale Royal and Knutsford Ramblers joined the coach to Longnor, in Staffordshire.

Rose Chisholm’s A group alighted first at Hind Low. From there they romped over Chrome and Parkhouse hills and past Glutton Bridge to High Wheeldon. From there they went via Pilsbury Castle to Sheen Hill and on to Longnor after 13.5 miles and 2100ft of ascent. The other walks started from Longnor.

David Eyes took his D group along green lanes to Caldicote and on to Pilsbury before returning round Sheen Hill and along the Manifold Way to complete 6.6 miles.

The C group, led by David Brunt, took the Manifold Way south, leaving it at Brund and then on to Sheen. From there they climbed to the ridge overlooking Hartington before returning around Sheen Hill after 8.5 miles with around 1000ft of ascent.

Penny Clarke took her B group south along the Manifold way, over Sheen Hill then on to Sheen and Hartington. The group ascended the ridge above the River Dove and went on to Pilsbury, Crowdicote and Earl Sterndale before returning to Longnor after 12.5 miles with 1900ft of ascent.

Back in Longnor, the two tea shops were very hospitable and the log fire in the Cheshire Cheese pub made for comfortable relaxation.
