The ladies of Jodrell Side WI enjoyed a very pleasant day in August on their annual outing.

They visited Hope House in Ashbourne and had a lively and entertaining talk on the wonderful collection of antique clothing that is on display there.

After spending some time being allowed to handle some of the dresses, hats and accessories they were given a very pleasant lunch in the lovely old farmhouse next to the barn that houses the collection.

The rest of the afternoon was spent at leisure browsing in Bakewell where quite a few tarts were purchased.

The bowling team have had a rewarding summer winning 11 of their matches. There is a busy season ahead with the various activity clubs planning the Autumn programmes.

There is a rail trip coming up soon and the book club and walking group are flourishing. Several members are looking forward to the fun quiz later in the month.

The speaker for the meeting was Diane Stenson from Knutsford Heritage Centre. She gave a lively talk on Mrs Gaskell which brought “Cranford” to life by relating it to the various buildings in Knutsford that inspired her.

The competition was won by Maureen Keaton and the three lucky raffle prize winners were Chris Cartwright, Helen Powell and Heather Jones.
