JUDITH Adshead gave a report on Cheshire Show at the recent meeting of Lower Withington WI. Once again they did extremely well winning cups for Combined Class 1, Flowers Class 6 and the Middlewich Cup for the most points in staging and interpretation for Class 1 where they obtained 159 points out of 160; the first for any WI.

Ann Daughtrey and Gwen Hayhurst had first for quilts and Ann Hornby a second. Jennifer Taylor had first for beading and Karen Hilton a second.

Wendy Edmonds had a first and third for flowers. Judith Adshead had a second for cookery.

Dorothy Monks won a first and two thirds in the NAFAS exhibits.

Pauline Kennerley had a big birthday and was presented with a lovely plant.

Jane Budenburg gave a report on the AGM at Leeds which she had thoroughly enjoyed despite the awful weather.

The speaker for the evening was Zoe from Sainsbury’s with a demonstration of cookery. She cooked four dishes single-handedly with enough food to feed all members and visitors.

There were lots of little tips throughout the demonstration which was expertly done and the food was delicious.

There was an extra treat at the end as Zoe had brought with her a chocolate tray bake which was to die for. The first prize of an old cookery book was won by Irene Willett.

The next meeting is on July 23 in the parish room at 7.30pm when Nick Bianchi will talk about the history of Arighi Bianchi. The competition will be “Something about Macclesfield”. Visitors are welcome.
