GOOSTREY WI members voted almost unanimously to support the Resolution at the National AGM which asked for help to raise the awareness of organ donation. Sue Leicester gave a presentation to help them to reach a decision.

Mary Hooley received the beautiful flowers from the President’s table as she has recently been quite poorly.

The speaker for the meeting was Mary Houseman with her talk entitled “The history of spinning and weaving”.

Mary had worked for many years at Quarry Bank Mill demonstrating this art to the public. She brought with her a spinning wheel and a small weaving loom.

She demonstrated techniques and told of the history from the 1200’s to the present day. She also brought items that she had made from the wool she had spun and woven. She was thanked by Sue Edwards.

The competition; a piece of WI memorabilia was won by Norah Relph and Sheila Thomlinson won the raffle.

The next meeting will be in Goostrey Village Hall on Wednesday, June 18, everyone welcome.
