KNUTSFORD’S Cancer Research shop is busy celebrating 20 years in the town after raising more than £2million for the charity.

In its time in the town – and thanks to the area’s generous donaters – the shop on King Street has collected a grand total of £2,203,398.75p.

And four volunteers – Jean Sells, Maureen Sayers, Jean Ellis and Brenda Doyle – have marked the occasion as they have worked at the shop since it opened.

Knutsford Town Mayor, Clr Peter Coan, visited the shop on Tuesday, October 5, as volunteers and customers celebrated.

Manager Sue Morrow said: “We’ve got a really good reputation in the town and being in Knutsford we get some wonderful donations with it being an affluent area.”

Sue, who has been manager for three years, added that a few designer goodies has boosted the impressive tally.

“We quite often get nice handbags,” she said.

“A brand new Burberry handbag is probably our best donation and we sold that for £300 – it cost £800 in the shops.

“In the whole store, we put out about 1,000 items a week, which includes bric-a-brac.

“That shows we need the volunteers that we have got.

“There’s always lots of nice things coming through to us though and at the moment we have a Kurt Geiger coat – a beautiful wool one – which is on sale for £65.

“But people know when they donate to us we get the best possible price.”

In the north, the shop is only behind the one in Preston, Lancashire in terms of sales figures.
