ALDI has been given permission to build a supermarket off Brook Street in Knutsford.

Just minutes ago Cheshire East Council approved the German company’s plans for the Cranford Court site.

They said Aldi could build the store, providing it met various conditions.

That included the submission of sympathetic brick samples, extra provision of cycle parking and delivery times limited between 7am and 9pm.

Cheshire East’s northern area planning committee approved the plans during a meeting at Town Hall in Macclesfield today.

They believe the German company’s proposals would not cause traffic congestion along the busy road.

Cheshire East’s councillors said improvements to the road, junctions and traffic light system would help.

Aldi will now build a supermarket with 80 car parking spaces on Cranford Court near the junction with King Street and Adams Hill.

After the meeting the company said it could not yet reveal when the development would start.

But earlier this year Aldi had planned to begin work by October and then open the store by the summer next year.

The supermarket’s 80 parking spaces could be used for up to an hour and a half by shoppers visiting any of the town’s stores.
