MOST of the time in life, being left on the shelf is a bad thing.

But that is not the case when you are a turkey - and Christmas is fast approaching.

Last year, when customers were ordering birds from Arley’s Stockley Farm, just two turkeys out of about 100 were not plucked and packaged off to a Christmas dinner table Farm manager Jane Docksey said Terry and Theresa were neither too big nor too small - just very lucky.

“Everyone got the turkey they wanted and they were left over,” she said. “People order the size they want. You don’t know exactly how much a bird will be but you can make a rough estimate.”

Now the pair have become a permanent visitor attraction in a pen at the farm.

The farm is no longer breeding turkeys for Christmas, so the pair will not be joined by any lucky leftover companions this year.

Miss Docksey said Terry and Thersa were probably the happiest turkeys in Cheshire, and would be able to live out their days without a fear of cranberry sauce.
