AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD girl will ride to the switch-on of Knutsford’s Christmas lights in a sleigh pulled by reindeer - and then sing in the choir.

Hannah Chatelet, who lives in Warren Avenue, was chosen as the winner of a competition organised by Knutsford Town Council and the Knutsford Guardian.

Her dad Thierry revealed that she would have a busy evening on Wednesday.

“She’s going to be singing with the Egerton School choir and she’s already very excited,” he said.

He said Hannah was at school, but expected her to be delighted when she returned home last night.

“We’ve been before and she’s always liked the switch-on,” he said. “I don’t think she expected to win but she thought she would give it a try.”

Hannah’s sleigh ride will begin at the railway bridge in King Street at 7pm and she will arrive in Canute Place at about 7.30pm.

Then there will be carols by Egerton Primary School pupils and performances by Mereside Brass Band.

Last year former India cricketer Farokh Engineer volunteered to switch on the lights for free - but this year reindeer from Aviemore in Scotland will be brought in to give the event a festive feeling.

Mr Chatelet said his daughter had loved the idea of seeing reindeer.

“She always leaves some carrots out on Christmas Eve for the reindeer,” he said.
