A FREE winter fruit tree pruning workshop is being held at Knutsford’s Crosstown Community Orchard.

Orchard expert Dan Hasler, of the Manchester Fruit Tree Co-operative, will teach winter fruit tree pruning skills.

He will explain the science behind winter pruning, give tips on how to shape trees and answer any questions gardeners have about their own trees.

The workshop takes place on Saturday, February 17, from 10am to 12 noon.

The event is funded by the orchard and offered free to the local community as part of the charities objectives to promote horticultural skill.

It’s open to anyone.

No previous pruning experience is required and all the tools needed will be provided.

Free tickets for the workshop can be booked online at eventbrite.co.uk/e/winter-pruning-workshop-tickets-825759788757

Adam Keppel-Green, chairman of Crosstown Community Orchard, said: “We created the orchard with a passion for creating a gem of a green space, but none of us had any particular skill in tending to the trees.

“This will be our third winter pruning workshop where the community can learn something new whilst helping keep our trees well shaped.

“We welcome new faces so even if you’ve never been to the orchard before.

“If you want to learn about tree pruning, please sign up for a space”

Volunteers are also always welcome at monthly volunteering sessions on the last Sunday each month from 10am to 12 noon.
