A BLAZE of colour will welcome visitors to a Cheshire village next spring after an astonishing 10,000 daffodil bulbs were planted in record time.

Residents in Goostrey teamed up with Sibelco Quarry on Saturday to complete the mammoth challenge.

An army of volunteers took just four hours to dig up the grass verges.

Clare Downing, who launched Goostrey's popular Open Gardens Day, was involved in arranging the planting.

She said: "The 40-strong gang did an amazing job in planting so many bulbs in such a time that we had to cancel plans for planting the next day.

"I can't thank the volunteers enough for their energy and support and also the gang from Sibelco who tirelessly dug, planted and provided grit throughout the morning.

"Hopefully, all our efforts will provide Goostrey residents and visitors a lot of much-needed colour in the spring."

Residents renamed New Platt Lane, New Plant Lane for the day as they set to work.

Sibelco and villagers bought more than 250kg of bulbs to create a sea of golden daffodils for next year.

Sue Jones, a member of the organising team, said: "It was fantastic so many people came to help and it meant we were able to plant all the bulbs in a record time and another day was unnecessary."
