EUPHORIC students at Knutsford Academy were jumping for joy after achieving outstanding GCSE grades.

There was an air of joy and excitement as teenagers opened their result envelopes.

An incredible amount of grade 9s were gained by pupils, despite their learning being interrupted by Covid.

Head teacher Karen Key said: “I’m super proud of them all.

“Our school has a strong track record of academic excellence and this year’s cohort has continued this tradition.

“They have worked exceptionally hard and demonstrated resilience and commitment, having had their education disrupted by the pandemic.

“The successes that we are celebrating are a result of students’ hard work and determination, our incredibly supportive parents and our dedicated staff.

“They have done exceptionally well.”

Emily Fozard, who gained seven grade 9s, two grade 7s and a grade 6, said: “I’m really happy. It’s a big relief after all the long nights of revision.”

Jamie Duncan, who gained eight grade 9s and an 8 in further maths, said: “It was a lot of hard work but nice to be at the end of it now.”

Kirsty Marshall, who achieved five grade 9s and four grade 8s, said: “I feel really good. It’s a big relief.”

Jemima Dunlop, who gained four grade 9s, three 8s and two 7s, said: “I’m really happy. It’s been a bit of a journey.”

Esme Bergin hopes to follow a career in sports psychology.

Daniella Webb, who hopes to become an architect, said: "It was a big relief, I did really well with some results I didn't expect."

Alfred Fletcher, who achieved four grade 9s, five 8s and a grade 7, said: “I’m excited and really happy.”

Eva Wilson hopes to embark on a career in biochemistry after achieving six grade 9s and four 8s.

She said: “I love being in the lab.”

Gifted soccer star Anna Fletcher is celebrating success in the classroom and on the pitch.

The 16-year-old plays mid field for Man Utd u21s.

She said: “I was playing Celtic in Scotland yesterday and only got home at 1am.

“I’m very happy with my results.

Anna, who gained a grade 9, three 8s and six 7s, said: “I’ve been playing football since I was eight.

“I definitely would love to play professional if the opportunity arose. It is very competitive.”

Anna has signed up for A-levels in sociology, psychology and English Language.

Sally Young, who gained 10 good grades, said: “I’m really happy.”

She will be studying maths, psychology, sociology, philosophy and ethics in sixth form.

James Kendall will be studying graphics, media studies and enterprise.

Toby Snowden has opted for maths, physics and sociology.

Mason Young, who has chosen fine art, enterprise and graphics, said: “I want to be a tattoo artist.”

Catriona Millson, chairman of governors, said: “We’re very proud of all of them.

“Whatever grade they’ve got, it’s a great achievement.”
