ADAM Griffiths has won the first silverware of the Knutsford and District Amateur Snooker League season.

The Shaw Heath cueman defeated Gary Long in the 6 Reds Trophy Final, successfully defending his title.

More than 30 players contested the prize at Wilmslow Conservative Club in a competition played with an alternate format of just six reds.

After a brilliant day of snooker, Griffiths came out on top 2-0 in the decider.

It topped a fantastic week on the green baize for Griffiths as he had already made a 51 break in his league match along with an amazing 141-point frame score.

In the league matches, it was a great week for leaders Tatton A.

They had a 7-0 victory against Mere A and all of their nearest challengers lost.

Tatton A's Pete Blain had a 30 break.

The results mean that Tatton A now have a six-point cushion at the top of the table with just nine games left to play.

This week's remaining matches all pitted teams from the bottom half against teams from the top half and, amazingly, all five matches were won by the lower placed teams.

Mere C edged out Morley Green 4-3, despite a 32 break from Morley's Keith Aldred.

In the other Tuesday match Tatton C beat Mobberley C 4-3 in a match that contained ton-plus scores from Tatton's Francis Evans and Mobberley's Rick Tims.

Mobberley A's recent good run was halted by Wilmslow Cons A - Vic McAfee's 130-point frame score being the highlight for Wilmslow.

Champions Shaw Heath continued their push up the table with a 5-2 victory over Mobberley B.

6 Reds Trophy winner Griffiths' stellar performance was backed up by a fine 42 break from Graham Whalley.

In the final match Wilmslow Cons B dented Tatton B's title hopes with a 5-2 victory. Wilmslow's Bill Allen scored 100+ points in his frame, as did Dave Moore for Tatton.
