STYAL Golf Club were well represented at the Manchester and District Golf Captains Association’s annual dinner.

Having been cancelled for the previous two years due to Covid, the 65th staging of the dinner saw 120 members and invited guests descend upon the Worsley Marriott hotel.

The Manchester and District Golf Captains Association has over 550 members from clubs in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire and Derbyshire within 25 miles of Manchester Town Hall.

Wilmslow Golf Club’s Ben Currie – the Cheshire boys’ captain – was also in attendance, with guests treated to an after-dinner speech from former England international cricketer Geoff Miller.

Back at Styal, the Friday Frolics competition was decided by a card play-off with three golfers finishing on 20 points.

In the end, Dave Corless was declared the winner as he edged out Stephen Beck and David Wood.

The following day, golfers took to the course for a 15-hole Stableford competition.

Another card play-off was needed to decide Division One, with Daniel Trainor coming out on top after he had finished alongside Anton Barnsley on 34 points.

Division Two was a little more clear-cut, with Darren Jones leading in the field on 35 points.

Paul Dawson was second having picked up 34 points, with Zach Norcross a further point behind.
