A FARMER passionate about sustainable farming is in the running for a national accolade.

Ian Norbury, of Dairy House farm Mobberley, has been nominated by Tatton MP Esther McVey in the Community Farming Hero competition.

Organised by the National Farmer’s Union, MPs were asked to nominate a farmer who had gone above and beyond in the area.

Mr Norbury runs the pedigree Mobberley Aberdeen Angus herd, including bulls 'Boris' and 'Electric'.

This beef farmer is passionate about educating both young and old who want to learn about farming.

He encourages people to enjoy the countryside in a responsible way and is one of Cheshire’s farming ambassadors.

He recently drew in massive crowds at The Royal Cheshire Show as people flocked to see his 780kg Electric in the education marquee.

Ms McVey said: “Ian is keen to ensure that he farms in the most sustainable way as possible and he sells the beef from his farm locally to pubs and restaurants.

“I had a great time visiting the farm and on a visit prior to the pandemic I was lucky enough to be introduced to his bull Boris!

“Ian’s passion and enthusiasm for the industry makes him a worthy nomination.”

Mr Norbury’s farm is involved in Countryside stewardship, a government scheme which provides incentives for farmers, woodland owners, foresters, and land managers to look after and improve the environment.
