CHESHIRE Pet Veterinary Practice in Holmes Chapel has appointed veterinary surgeon Dr Kristina Hunter, who has specific interest in exotic animals.
Kristina has a BSc (Hons) in Bioveterinary Science. She has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Exotic Animal Practice, holds a PgC (ExAP) in exotic animal practice and is studying towards a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (Zoological Medicine).
Whilst she is passionate about all exotic species, she has a particular affinity for rats, and has seven of her own plus two Chinchillas.
Kristina said: “When you start your veterinary career you study all species. After qualifying I knew I really wanted to extend my knowledge and qualifications with exotic species.
“Exotic animals can often need regular specialist nursing care and treatment and it is really interesting caring for them.
Exotic animals are becoming more popular as pets and we have seen some interesting and wonderful animals here at the practice, such as a Royal Python, skunks, a raven, hoglets, tarantulas and a Serval Cat, as well as more traditional pets.
“We often see cases from other vets, who need our advice and skill base to help with some of their more unusual patients!"
