CHILDREN’S charity The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust turned the streets of Manchester green and blue on Sunday with a team of 88 runners wearing the charity’s colourful vests during this year’s Great Manchester Run.

The event was held in scorching temperatures, and the event is expected to have raised more than £10,000 for CAFT.

Commonly known as the Manchester 10k, this is one of the UK’s largest running events which this year attracted 40,000 runners of all ages and abilities, most of whom were raising money for good causes.

Millions of pounds are raised each year for charities at this huge event which sees runners covering a 10k or half marathon route.

Runners were supported by the charity’s Sports and Challenges Co-ordinator Jure Modic and a team of volunteers who kept spirits high and bodies hydrated.

Drinks and energy snacks were made available, as well as much- needed massages at the end thanks to Cath Leftley of Altrincham Physio, who volunteered her services to help the cause she has supported for many years.

Jure said: “I know you shouldn’t have favourites, but the Manchester 10k definitely holds a special place in all of our hearts, particularly following the devastating events which happened at the Manchester Arena almost exactly a year ago.

“The sense of pride in this amazing city is palpable, and we feel truly honoured to have been part of an event which celebrates the generosity of spirit of the people of the north west.

“The money raised at this event will help us to change the lives of children from all over our region, it’s something we should all feel very proud of.”

The charity has a number of challenge events planned for the remainder of 2018, including bike rides and trekking events over various distances.
